About a year ago, I was in the market for a new car. After some research, careful consideration, and patience waiting for the right car to pop up in the area, I snatched up a handsome 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 that had one previous owner and about 10k miles. After spending a Massachusetts winter with it, and driving often back and forth on trips to Block Island and to Maine, I can confidently say it’s the best (and most economical) car I’ve ever driven!
I recently moved into a two bedroom apartment, so I wasn’t sure what the charging situation would be like at home. Thankfully, turns out my landlord is a licensed electrician and was able to install a level two charger, eligible for a rebate with the municipal power company! Now, it costs me on average about 4 cents to drive a mile – less than half of a gas car getting 30mpg, (*especially* now with rising fuel prices). And with plenty of range, I don’t even need to think about stopping to charge unless I’m going to Maine! The range takes a bit of a hit in colder weather, true, maybe 30%, but I don’t even notice it until, again, I’m going on a longer road trip.
Basically, don’t be scared to go EV — especially if you can get a home charger. They’re ready for New England, the driving experience is undeniably better, and you can kiss high fuel costs and oil changes goodbye!
